Jane Magennis

Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner/Social Worker

Hi, I’m Jane. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work and am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers. With over 20 years of experience working alongside families and communities, I bring a deep commitment to culturally respectful, client-centred care.
My journey began as an Aboriginal Family Health Worker with an Aboriginal Medical Service. From there, I moved into Child Protection, working as an Out of Home Care Caseworker and Foster Carer Assessor. I then spent a decade as a Sexual Assault Counsellor with Hunter New England Health, before moving into my most recent role supporting NDIS participants as a Behaviour Support Practitioner.
I am passionate about creating a space where First Nations people feel safe, respected, and empowered. My practice is grounded in trauma-informed care and supports self-determination and cultural identity. I walk alongside my clients with empathy and respect, fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust and collaboration.
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness to tailor support to each individual’s needs.
I’m looking forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey. Together, we can create a safe and meaningful space for growth, healing, and positive change.
